Anthony James and Anthony Slater were both convicted of attempted murder, arson with intent to endanger life and perverting the course of justice after a two week trial. Slater was sentenced to 23 years imprisonment, and James to 19 years, both with an additional extended licence period of 5 years. They attacked their victim in his own flat in the middle of the night, slashing his throat before barricading him into his bedroom and setting his flat on fire.
Tony Dunne successfully prosecuted the case on behalf of Northumbria CPS. Both defendants were represented by Queen’s Counsel.
