KBW team of David Brooke QC, Tony Dunne and Naakesha Michl successfully prosecutes gang for professionally-planned drive-by shooting

12 August 2021

Six members of a organised criminal gang who carried out a drive-by shooting have been given life sentences at Leeds Crown Court in a case prosecuted by David Brooke QC, Tony Dunne, and Naakesha Michl, instructed by the Yorkshire and Humberside CPS Complex Casework Unit. Six defendants were convicted of conspiracy to murder after a trial lasting seven weeks, and all received life sentences with minimum terms ranging from 20 to 12 years. Two victims were extremely lucky to survive after being shot at close range whilst sitting in a supermarket car park in Liversedge, and had to have bullets surgically removed from their bodies. The professionally-planned and organised conspiracy involved the placing of a tracking device under the victim’s car several nights before the shooting, with a serving prisoner co-ordinating the attempted killing from his prison cell. A seventh defendant was convicted of taking a mobile phone into prison, and three more pleaded guilty to conspiring to use a firearm with intent to endanger life.
