Stephen Welford

Stephen has 28 years’ experience in criminal defence. He began his career in 1993 and qualified as a solicitor in 2000. The following year he was accredited as a Duty Solicitor. He developed a very busy practice representing clients at both the police station and in the Magistrates’ Court.

Practice Summary

In 2005, having attained his Higher Rights of Audience, Stephen became a Solicitor-Advocate and has since spent the majority of his time representing clients and conducting trials in the Crown Court.

Stephen has been led in many serious complex criminal cases. Stephen has been the Junior defence barrister in two murder trials, over six weeks, since the beginning of 2021.

He has appeared in the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division) on many occasions with significant success.

In 2014 Stephen was Called to the Bar by Lincoln’s Inn and holds dual qualification.

Stephen is extremely well-regarded and sought-after by clients for his direct, thorough and holistic approach to cases.
